Great Essay from 2002

A really thought-provoking and fresh essay from 2002 by one of my favorite authors - check out the wave metaphor - how does this apply to what I'm doing at the intentional community I'm currently visiting?

I can say, from the commune, that a life involving organic gardening, jumping in the pond, and a relatively tiny ecological footprint is pretty doable and at times very fun. But it doesn't necessarily address the main point in the essay, and that is also worth considering.
